8-11th August 2020
Yippee at long last we can start our travels, or at least try and get away to the NT for a few months. Let’s hope Covid doesn’t change that too much for us !!!
After a week of low temperatures in Moonta, and then snow over many parts of SA we decided enough to was enough and left Moonta on the 8th August. The day we left it was 9 degrees and raining. First night was Port Augusta then on to Woomera for a night.
Woomera was an interesting little place, lots of history in the Rocket Park display, unfortunately the museums were closed due to Covid. At least the sun was out and we could finally thaw out a bit.
Next day 10th August we left for Coober Pedy. Unfortunately for us there was a strong head wind, which wasn’t great for our fuel economy. I think we made it the 383 km journey with about 20km of fuel left in the tank, so not great !!
What an interesting place Coober Pedy is, it really looks like you would imagine the landscape on the moon to look. We did a tour of an underground mine and house – what a way to live, if you need a spare room, just dig out another room. The town in over run with opal museums and people trying to sell you opals but i guess what else do you expect in an opal town. Unfortunately the opal mining days are all but gone as costs far outweighs the amount of money made out of finding opals. Still an interesting place to have a look around though.
On to NT tomorrow, stay away Covid !!
