Eighty Mile Beach WA
After 5 nights at Barn Hill we moved another 250km down the coast to a place called Eighty Mile Beach Caravan Park. We weren’t sure if we would get into the park as they do not take bookings and its pretty much first in first served. They do have plenty of sites so its not very often they have to put the full sign up. There is a dirt road into 80 mile Beach but the track was pretty good and we had no issues getting through – hey what’s another layer of red dust !!! We arrived around 11am and had no problem getting a powered site, and what a contrast to Barn Hill as the sites are even grassed !! We booked in for 5 nights but really we could have just had two or three as unless you are a keen fisherman there is not really much to do apart from walk the beach and relax. The Beach was amazing as they were endless white beaches with lots of shells. The Beach is unsuitable for swimming as the tides and currents don’t allow it – although they did say it was at your own risk. The tides here were huge like all the WA coastline and you would have to walk out about 1km to get to the water on low tide. You are able to drive along the beach which we did one night to watch the sunset. We did enjoy our time here walking the beach and wow those Devonshire teas at the Cafe were pretty dam good – . Each night the Cafe would do a special night – burger nights, roast nights, schnitzel nights etc which apparently were pretty good but we didn’t actually sample any of these. They also put on entertainment a couple of times whilst we were here. Unfortunately most of the time we were here it was really windy, which is normal apparently in this neck of the wood. Great place to spend a few days relaxing and great place for fishing if that’s your thing !!
