Broome / Cable Beach - May - June 2021 - Part 2
So much to see and do in Broome, in the last two weeks we have visited the Broome Museum, Gantheaume Point a few times as it is such an interesting place, done numerous sunsets on Cable Beach, lots of walking along the beach, visited Matso’s Brewery & The Malcolm Douglas Crocodile farm to name a few.
The Broome museum is certainly worth a look as there is so much local history about the pearling industry and the war. A great way to spend an afternoon and then to take a wander along the waterfront (Town Beach) a pretty little beach that overlooks beautiful Roebuck Bay. The Broome Pioneer Cemetery is also located along this stretch of beach and has grave sites of men who died at sea the oldest gravesite dates back to 1883, so some interesting history here.
We also visited Gantheaume Point which adjoins Cable Beach, it is such an incredible place with its stunning cliff tops set against the beautiful blue waters of the incredible coastline. We spent hours just climbing in and out of the rock faces onto rocky plateaus that overlooked spectacular views of the coast. It is so different in low and high tide. Great place to just sit and admire the stunning coastline.
Matso’s Brewery is also a good place to spend and afternoon sampling there many different types of brews – you can buy paddles of different flavours. I chose the ginger beer, Mango Beer, Hard Lemon, Pearlers Pale Ale and the Kimberly Draught. I must admit my favourite was the Ginger Beer – very scrumptious !!! Jeff unfortunately didn’t get a chance to sample very much at all as he has been on antibiotics for the last week – oh no!! Great afternoon spent with some lovely people who pulled up beside us in Lake Argyle and that we have crossed paths with along the way down to Broome.
Another great place to visit is the Malcolm Douglas Crocodile Farm, I don’t reckon i have ever seen so many crocodiles in one place – in one large pool there were at least 70 big salty’s. It was amazing to see them being fed and to hear about all the different types of crocodiles. We even got to hold a baby one – even this little guys had to have there mouths taped shut to stop them biting !!
We have had a great time in Broome and met some wonderful people – we even made friends with a couple who only live a few km’s from our home in SA. Funny the places you meet people. You would think the sunsets would get boring but each one is so different. Lots of people drive down on to the beach to watch the sunset but this is one thing we haven’t attempted as its much more interesting watching everyone stream on to the beach, over a rocky outcrop and over the sometimes boggy sand, avoiding camels and people. (There has even been a couple of cars towed out ) We have noticed that it has got quite a bit busier since we got here, so it’s probably the right time to start heading South.
