We left Alice Springs and travelled approx 4 hours (420km) to the Devils Marbles. We decided to spend the night at the bush camp located near the Devils Marbles at a cost of $3.30 per person. Great little spot if you are self sufficient. Drop toilets are provided in the park. We did a few of the walks around the rocks, quite an interesting spot as you are driving along with not really much in the way of any real scenery and then all of a sudden you come across all these rocks piled on top of each other in random spots. You can understand why when they were discovered they seemed like a pile of marbles !! Probably not a great idea to do the 2km walk in the middle of the day – like us idiots !! Let’s say luckily there was a nice cold beer in the fridge when we got back 🙂
After our night at Lucifer’s Marbles (haha) we made our way to the Iconic Daly Waters Pub a 500km (5.5hr) drive up the Stuart Highway and arrived just in time for happy hour !! Wow what a great pub, the bar is decorated with lots of different underwear hanging above the bar and the outdoor area, well what can i say there is different signs and memorabilia everywhere you look. They are famous for there BBQ Steak and Barra of which we decided to give a try – YUM!! They even have a band playing every night from 6pm which provides great entertainment whilst having a few cold beverages. Across the road from the pub there is a small museum with lots of fantastic stuff inside, well worth a look. All in all I would say to anyone going that way to stop in and have a look, as its a great little pub with lots of quirks and character.
Next stop Mataranka !!
