Alice Springs – mmm what can I say it has its good points and its bad points, but it is a great place to base yourself to explore the MacDonnell Ranges. We decided to spend a week at the Alice Springs Tourist Park – Great little park with really helpful staff – Would highly recommend if you are planning a trip to Alice Springs.
First day we really just explored the town to see what was here. Surprising what is here, they even have a Bunnings of which Jeff couldn’t resist a fix :-). The Anzac Hill lookout is a good spot to visit to get your bearings of the town.
The highlight so far of Alice Springs is the Alice Springs Desert Park which really is a hidden gem. Plenty to see and do, we spent the whole day exploring the place and I don’t think we ended up seeing the whole thing. There is a fantastic bird display which is on twice and day and is included in the entry price. We actually did both the shows and there were different birds in both shows. The birds fly in over your head and there is plenty of opportunity to get some good photos. There is also a really great Nocturnal house that has plenty of nocturnal wildlife as well as reptiles and is very well done. At least you can actually see the animals!! Throughout the day they also offer lots of different activities; bird feeding, various talks on animals, bush tucker. There was something to see and do almost every half hour during the day as well of lots of bird aviaries to wonder through and gardens to walk through. A must to do when when visiting Alice springs.
Next up the beautiful McDonnell Ranges !!
