12th - 14th August 2020

Left Coober Pedy for Uluru early on the 12th.  Got through the border with no problems at all.  Handy to note that if you pre do your border permit and print it out on your way up to the border then all you need to do when you get there is sign the Stat Dec and show your drivers licence and your through.

We then travelled the 25km to a little place called Kulgera Roadhouse/Kulgera Pub that has a small caravan park alongside it.  Perfect place to spend a night and grab a meal from the pub.  Owners were friendly and entertaining 🙂

The next morning 13th we travelled the 340km to Uluru. Staying at the Ayers Rock Campgrounds.  Not many people around here at the moment due to Covid so we pretty much could pick our site.  Ammenities are fantastic here and lots of free activities to do if you don’t feel like driving around – Digeridoo workshop, bush tucker, bush yarns and lots more.

First things first to tick of one of my bucket list items – Actually see Uluru in all its glory (Ticked !!)  We drove around the Rock and then ventured back to witness one of the amazing sunsets that makes Uluru glow red.  Stunning as to how many colours it changes.  Makes you wish you could paint, no not really that is Jeff’s saying!!

Today (14th) we walked the 11km around Uluru, now that is a truly amazing walk and makes the blisters and the little bit of sunburn worth it !!! Around every bend the colours change and the rock faces change – i bet it you went back tomorrow it would probably be different again.  It is truly an experience that everyone should see.  The walk takes approx 3.5 hours and I am so glad we got to do this when it was only 22 degrees, I hate to imagine what it would be like a few months down the track.

Can’t wait to see Kata Tjuta tomorrow !!
